Light On PTSD
Our 2nd Annual Event
At 9am on July 23th, 2017, a team of 7 dedicated cyclists began a 24 hour ride around Stanley Park to raise awareness and shine a light on PTSD. As we did last year, we invited the public to join in, connect, ask questions, and show support for those that struggle with symptoms of trauma and PTSD. We had a home base set up at Second Beach where we provided information to the public and encouraged cyclists to join our team for a lap or two.
Wow, what a day it was! Our second annual 24hr Light On PTSD event was a huge success. We were thrilled to have the one and only talented Colin Bullock provide us with entertainment. Lululemon came down and treated us with an awesome sunset and sunrise yoga session overlooking the ocean. And 529 Garage, a community-based bike registration and recovery service, was very kind in setting set up a booth for free bike registration. It as great to see how many bikes were registered! And once again, team morale was up the entire time despite the long, cold and damp night. The cyclists persevered for the entire duration and our mission to raise awareness around PTSD was accomplished through speaking with the public, Global BC, and various other interviews throughout the day. Together the team cycled 2,890km's including 209m of elevation, so 60,401 meters of elevation - the equivalent of climbing Everest almost 7 times!
Honour House was the recipient of our fund raising this year. Honour House provides a free of charge, temporary home for members of our Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans and Emergency Services Personnel and their families while they travel to receive medical care and treatment in the Metro Vancouver Area. With your help we donated $10,000! And thanks to our friends at Operation Supply Drop we were also able to donate an Xbox console, screen, controllers, X-Box Games, board games, to help pass the time.
We are thankful to be the first group to hold a 24 hour event in Stanley Park (and for the second year in a row!). Tremendous gratitude for all our sponsors who donated items, services, nutrition, treats, and funding. We couldn't have done this without you! Thank you!
